Ashley's Angel Fund Inc. is a nonprofit organization providing monetary assistance for veterinary care to dog owners whose pet is facing a life-threatening condition.  By providing financial assistance in time of critical need, Ashley's Angel Fund seeks to perpetuate the bond that exists between people and their pets.
 
Ashley's Angel Fund is home to the Zach Memorial Fund, specifically for dogs with cancer, and the Ashley Fund for non-cancer cases.

JACKSON - JANUARY 2008:  is a 2 year old Labrador Retriever with osteosarcoma.  Jackson was showing some signs of lameness in one leg, and the cancer was diagnosed upon further examination.  To slow the progression, Jackson's leg was amputated and he is getting around very well.   Assistance was provided by the Zach Memorial Fund.

 
CHARLOTTE - JANUARY 2008:  is a 2 year old Shepherd mix that was diagnosed with heartworms.  Charlotte was originally a "rescue" who was a bit shy, but following her recovery from the heartworm treatment she has blossomed into a truly wonderful dog and lives comfortably in her new home.

 
LAIKA - JANUARY 2008:  a 12 year old Siberian Husky who was diagnosed with intestinal neuroendocrine carcinoma.  He had surgery for a mass removal and also had follow-up chemotherapy.  Laika is doing great, playing, and has no restrictions.  The Zach Memorial Fund provided assistance for Laika's treatments.  

 

DRAKE - JANUARY 2008:  is a 10 year old Schnauzer diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma.  Drake's owner was able to get support from the Zach Memorial Fund to treat this aggressive cancer with a hind leg amputation.  He is also receiving chemotherapy and he has been doing well.
 

MIA - JANUARY 2008:  a 9 year old Boxer who escaped out of her fenced backyard and disappeared for two days.   When she returned home she had a broken femur and pelvis.  Surgery was performed to correct these injuries and Mia has made a great recovery.

BLACK JACK - FEBRUARY 2008:  is a 12 year old Labrador Retriever diagnosed with epithelioma of right carpal region, a type of cancer.  He underwent radiation therapy and a left forequarter amputation.  Additional masses were found that required more surgery, so Black Jack is currently "rehabbing" from these procedures.  Black Jack received monetary support from the Zach Memorial Fund.  
 
Picture Not Available TJ - FEBRUARY 2008:  is an 18 week old Golden Retriever mix that had a fractured left femur.   A complicated surgery was performed to fix the fracture using a bone plate, and TJ is recovering. 
 
MAX - MARCH 2008:  is a 3 year old Great Dane who was rescued in an emaciated condition with a shattered front leg and torn ligaments in a hind leg.  Max required extensive orthopedic surgery and had to have a plate placed in his leg.  He has recovered very nicely and is actually able to run now.
 
KINGSLEY - MARCH 2008:  a 10 year old Boxer diagnosed with a recurrent abdominal wall sarcoma.    She had an initial surgery and is undergoing chemotherapy with financial assistance provided via the Zach Memorial Fund.
 
BRANDY - MARCH 2008:  is a 9 year old Labrador Retriever diagnosed with hemangiopericytoma.  This is a soft tissue cancer and surgery was required to save Brandy.  Thanks to monetary support from the Zach Memorial Fund, Brandy is home again now and doing well.
 

ALEXANDER - APRIL 2008:  is a 4 year old Golden Retriever and "seeing eye dog" who had squamous cell carcinoma.  Alexander had successful surgery and it looks as though no follow-up chemotherapy will be required.  Alexander received financial assistance from the Zach Memorial Fund.

ELSA - APRIL 2008:  is a 11 month old Doberman who was seriously ill with an autoimmune anemia.  She had lost weight and stopped eating, requiring urgent care and extensive treatment with antibiotics and steroids.    Fortunately Elsa responded well to the therapies and is continuing her recovery.

SNIFFY - APRIL 2008:  is a 11 year old Beagle who had nasal carcinoma.  Sniffy had a rhinoscopy to attempt to remove the tumor, with financial assistance from the Zach Memorial Fund.
 
MAILE - APRIL 2008:  a 8 year old Rottweiler mix who was diagnosed with lymphoma.  With assistance from The Zach Memorial Fund, Maile began chemotherapy and was able to have several months of good quality life.  Unfortunately she lost her battle with cancer in November 2008.
 

OTIS - MAY 2008:  a 10 year old mixed breed that was diagnosed with mast cell cancer.  With assistance from the Zach Memorial Fund, Otis had surgery to successfully remove a tumor.  Unfortunately Otis rapidly developed additional tumors and further tests indicated that his cancer was quite advanced.  Sadly, Otis lost his battle a short while ago but was able to spend a bit more quality time with his family.
 
SHANIA - MAY 2008:  a 5 year old Labrador Retriever who required TPLO, an orthopedic surgery, to correct a painful condition.  Shania is making an excellent recovery!
 
JAZZ - MAY 2008:  is a 7 year old Schnauzer who suddenly stopped eating and was lethargic.  The next day she also showed signs of pain in her neck and forelimbs.  Upon further testing she was diagnosed with Glomerulonephritis with possible neck muscle or disk disease.  At this time, Jazz is doing much better following treatment with Rimadyl, an appetite stimulant, medication for her kidneys, and IV fluids.
 
Picture Not Available DIALGA - MAY 2008  is a 16 week old Rottweiler mix that needed a complex orthopedic surgery to correct a hip problem.  Among other things, bone fragments had to be removed to alleviate the pain.  Without the surgery Dialga would have had a significantly compromised quality of life.
 
Picture Not Available TIMI - MAY 2008:  is a 10 year old miniature dachshund  who was diagnosed with a cervical sarcoma.  The Zach Memorial Fund provided monetary assistance so that Timi could have a delicate surgical procedure to remove the mass.
 
PRICE - MAY 2008:  is a 3 year old Sheltie who was rescued and then diagnosed with heartworms shortly afterwards.  Price received treatment and should make a full recovery.

SAMBOW - JUNE 2008:  is a 7 year old mixed breed who had developed what was believed to be debilitating arthritis and was in considerable pain.  Upon further examination it was discovered that Sambow had a torn ACL.  Successful surgery was performed and Sambow is doing quite well.

 

 
CHARLIE - JUNE 2008:  is an 11 year old Labrador Retriever who suddenly lost his appetite, was lethargic, and developed a fever.  Charlie was diagnosed with a bacterial infection and benign prostatic hyperplasia, along with a urinary tract infection.  After surgery and additional treatment, Charlie has made a full recovery and is doing well.

TRAVELER - JUNE 2008:  is a 10 year old Labrador Retriever mix diagnosed with lymphoma.  With financial assistance from the Zach Memorial Fund, Traveler began chemotherapy.  At last visit Traveler was doing well and was continuing treatment.

 

 
OPIE - JUNE 2008:  is a 13 year old Basset Hound mix diagnosed with lymphoma.  Opie began chemotherapy and is doing well.  The Zach Memorial Fund is providing assistance.

 

 
GUS - JUNE 2008:  is a 7 year old Boxer diagnosed with a recurrence of lymphoma.  Gus had able to achieve a remission when he was first diagnosed in 2006.  He restarted chemotherapy again but after a couple of treatments was unable to continue.  He lost his battle shortly thereafter.  The Zach Memorial Fund provided financial assistance for Gus' care.

LAIRA - JULY 2008:  is a 8 year old Australian Shepherd with lymphoma.  Laira was originally diagnosed some time ago but has been able to go into remission twice.  The Zach Memorial Fund provided assistance so that Laira could resume chemotherapy treatments and hopefully obtain a third remission. 

 

 
Picture Not Available SAMPSON - JULY 2008:  a 10 year old Cocker Spaniel who was diagnosed with lymphosarcoma.  The Zach Memorial Fund contributed to Sampson's care, but unfortunately the cancer was quite advanced.  After a few treatments Sampson lost his battle

ZIRAS - AUGUST 2008:  is a 7 year old German Shepherd and retired police dog diagnosed with lymphoma.    Ziras is pursuing monthly chemotherapy treatments with assistance from the Zach Memorial Fund.  At present he is doing very well and is in remission.

 

 
VEGAS - AUGUST 2008:  a 3 1/2 year old English Bulldog diagnosed with pyothorax, an infection within the chest cavity.  Surgery was performed and an abscessed lymph node was found.  Vegas had tubes inserted to drain his chest and he remained in the hospital for ten days, where his chest cavity was drained and he received antibiotics.  He has been released from the hospital and will continue antibiotics for several weeks.  Vegas continues to improve.

 

 
Picture Not Available GIA - AUGUST 2008:  is a 8 year old Leonburger diagnosed in July with osteosarcoma of the distal radius.  Her right front leg was amputated and chemotherapy started shortly after.  She was responding well but had to be hospitalized again for a second surgery due to swelling at the surgical site.  After a few days of recovery, Gia was discharged and is continuing chemotherapy with assistance from the Zach Memorial Fund.
 
BUDDY - SEPTEMBER 2008:  is a 8 year old mixed breed that needed knee surgery for bilateral luxating patellas.   Buddy has made a terrific recovery from the surgery, and is now running and playing like a puppy.
 
SUZIE - SEPTEMBER 2008:  an 8 year old Sheltie with a large tumor on the side of her face.  The mass was surgically removed and turned out to be a spindle cell tumor, a type of cancer.  Suzie is doing well at present.  The Zach Memorial Fund provided financial assistance.

 

 
Picture Not Available LEVI - SEPTEMBER 2008:  is a 14 year old Cocker Spaniel with an oral melanoma.  He had been receiving the melanoma vaccine but needed a second surgery and follow-up chemotherapy.  The Zach Memorial Fund assisted with Levi's expenses.
 
Picture Not Available DUTCHESS - OCTOBER 2008:  a 4 year old Pug mix suffering from severe anemia and an extremely high white blood cell count.  Dutchess was treated with heavy doses of both IV and oral antibiotics and is now doing well.  A full recovery is expected!
 
BAILEY - OCTOBER 2008:  is a 10 year old Boxer with lymphoma.  Bailey is currently pursuing chemotherapy with financial assistance from the Zach Memorial Fund.
 
REX - OCTOBER 2008:  a 7 year old German Shepherd who was diagnosed with a recurrence of lymphoma.  Rex was first diagnosed in March 2007, and the cancer went into remission following chemotherapy.  Because of the good response the first time, Rex's vets decided to try chemotherapy again.  The Zach Memorial Fund is contributing to Rex's expenses and he is currently doing well.

MAXWELL SMART - OCTOBER 2008:  is a 9 year old Sheltie diagnosed with bladder stones.  The stones were quite large and required surgical removal.  Maxwell made an excellent recovery from the surgery and is doing fine now.
 
 
FRANNIE - OCTOBER 2008:  an 9 year old Basset Hound with multicentric lymphoma.  With assistance from the Zach Memorial Fund, Frannie is receiving chemotherapy.  She is currently in remission and doing very well.
 
 
Picture Not Available POOH BEAR - OCTOBER 2008:  is a 6 year old Miniature Pinscher that developed severe back pain.  After examination it was determined that Pooh Bear required delicate back surgery due to intervertebral disk disease.  The surgery went very well and she should make a full recovery.
 
Picture Not Available MEDIAH - OCTOBER 2008:  is a Border Collie that was hit by a car and needed major surgery to fix numerous injuries.  The surgery went well and a full recovery is expected.  A portion of the monetary support for Mediah's expenses were made possible through a grant to Ashley's Angel Fund from the Build-a-Bear Foundation.
 
EMELOU - NOVEMBER 2008:  a 4 year old Jack Russell terrier with intermediate cell-type lymphoma.  Emelou is pursuing chemotherapy at this time, with financial assistance from the Zach Memorial Fund.
 
Picture Not Available PEPPER - NOVEMBER 2008:  is a 3 year old Shih Tzu that was hit by a car and suffered many orthopedic injuries, including a fractured pelvis and luxated hip.  Pepper needed major surgery to repair the fractures.  The surgery went well and Pepper should recover nicely.  A portion of the monetary support for Pepper's expenses were made possible through a grant to Ashley's Angel Fund from the Build-a-Bear Foundation.
 
CHARLIE - DECEMBER 2008:  a 4 year old Shih Tzu - Poodle mix and former rescue dog with a dermoid cyst on the right side of his head.  The cyst had grown so large that it was interfering with Charlie's vision and impinging on the nerves in that region of his face.    Successful surgery was performed to remove the cyst, and Charlie is back "running with the big dogs" at the local dog park.  A portion of the monetary support for Charlie's expenses were made possible through a grant to Ashley's Angel Fund from the Build-a-Bear Foundation.
 
ZEUS - DECEMBER 2008:  a 5 year old Labrador Retriever who was diagnosed with Chondrosarcoma.  To slow the cancer, Zeus had his right leg amputated and is so far doing very well.  The Zach Memorial Fund provided assistance with Zeus' expenses.
